Job summary

Coastal Fiber is a growing utility construction company building fiber optic networks along the East Coast. We promote from within and reward performance, not just seniority. We are looking for an experienced HDD Drill Locator to work with drill operators installing underground conduit for fiber optic cable.

This is not an entry-level position. Candidates must have 3+ years HDD locating experience, 3+ years operating mini excavators, and the ability to read utility locate markings and plans.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years HDD locating experience.
• Minimum 3 years operating mini excavators.
• Experience locating underground utility bores for fiber optic or utility construction.
• Ability to read utility locate markings and plans.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Locate and guide horizontal drill heads during underground bores.
• Assist with bores up to approximately 1,500 feet.
• Maintain accurate drill paths while avoiding existing utilities.
• Set up and verify locating equipment.
• Communicate continuously with the Drill Operator.
• Read utility locate markings and construction plans.
• Help expose existing utilities using a mini excavator when needed.
• Keep accurate records of completed work.
• Support the crew with daily setup and cleanup.
• Follow all company safety procedures.

We are looking for an experienced HDD Drill Locator to work alongside one of our drill operators installing underground conduit for fiber optic cable.

This is not an entry-level position. Previous locating experience is required.

What You'll Do

• Locate and guide horizontal directional drill heads during underground bores
• Assist with bores up to approximately 1,500 feet
• Maintain accurate drill paths while avoiding existing utilities
• Set up and verify locating equipment
