Job summary

Paterson Public Schools in New Jersey seeks a qualified high school theater teacher to lead students in drama instruction, productions, and performances.

The role requires a New Jersey theater teacher certificate, a master’s degree in theater arts or design & technology, and strong collaboration with staff, families, and the broader arts community. The successful candidate will develop a dynamic, standards-based curriculum and foster student engagement.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a New Jersey Theater teacher certificate.
  • Must hold a masters degree in theater arts or theater design & technology.
  • Experience teaching high school students.
  • Ability to organize lessons for high school students.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and good moral character.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and families.
  • Knowledge of child growth, instructional strategies, classroom management, assessment, and learning research.
  • Collaboration with colleagues in and out of the Department of Fine & Performing Arts.
  • Knowledge of theater pedagogy for high school.
  • Develop and administer drama classes aligned with school district goals.
  • Arrange opportunities for student performances during and after school hours.
  • Plan drama trips and performances and build partnerships with community members, theatre companies and colleges.
  • Develop a dynamic curriculum fostering love of theater and arts and student empathy, creativity, and analytical skills.
  • Develop daily lessons with high student engagement in a student-centered environment.

  • Develop and administers Drama classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Arranges opportunities for students to present performances both during and after school hours.
  • Plans, rehearses, and directs student programs for the school and community.
  • Ability to plan drama trips and performances; build partnerships with community members and colleges; coordinate after-school practices for performances.
  • Develop a dynamic curriculum that fosters a love of theater and the arts and builds student empathy, creativity, and analytical skills.
  • Develop daily lessons that produce a high level of student engagement in a student-centered environment.
