Job summary

Paterson Public Schools seeks a qualified Theater teacher to develop and deliver a robust high school drama program. You will design lessons, guide students through performances, and collaborate with the Department of Fine & Performing Arts to create engaging theatre experiences for the school and community.

The ideal candidate will hold NJ theater certification and a Master’s in Theater Arts or related field, with proven high school teaching experience and strong collaboration skills.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a New Jersey Theater teacher certificate.
  • Master's degree in theater arts or theater design & technology.
  • Experience teaching high school students.
  • Knowledge of theater pedagogy and curriculum planning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer Drama classes aligned with district goals and objectives.
  • Arrange opportunities for students to present performances during and after school hours.
  • Plan, rehearse, and direct student programs for the school and community.
  • Coordinate drama trips and performances; build partnerships with community members, theatre companies, and colleges.
  • Foster a dynamic curriculum that engages students and builds empathy, creativity, and analytical skills in theater.
  • Deliver daily lessons that promote high student engagement in a student-centered environment.

Qualifications
  • Must hold a New Jersey Theater teacher certificate.
  • Must hold a masters degree in theater arts or theater design & technology.
  • Have excellent experience in teaching and working with high school students.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the content field and describe ways in which the content can be organized into lessons for high school students.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and good moral character.
  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with staff and families.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in and out of the Department of Fine & Performing Arts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theater pedagogy appropriate for high school.
  • Develops and administers Drama classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Arranges opportunities for students to present performances both during and after school hours.
  • Plans, rehearses, and directs students programs for the school and community.
  • Ability to plan drama trips and performances. Build partnerships with community members, theatre companies and colleges; coordinate after school practices for performances.
  • Develop a dynamic curriculum that fosters a love of theater and the arts and builds student empathy, creativity, and analytical skills.
  • Develop daily lessons that produce a high level of student engagement in a student-centered environment.
