Job summary

The City of Austin is seeking a Drainage Operations and Maintenance II to perform highly skilled construction and maintenance work in the Open Waterways section of the Operations Division. You will operate heavy equipment, manage storm water facilities, and oversee landscape and erosion control tasks at the 9200 Sherman Rd.

location in Austin, TX. The role requires a valid Class A CDL and the ability to work outside regular hours, including potential on-call and rotating shifts during weather

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years experience in maintenance and/or construction, including 6 months experience in operation of heavy duty equipment.
• One (1) year of additional related experience may substitute for one (1) year of high school, up to a maximum of four (4) years.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL). Specific endorsements may be required within 120 days of hire.
• Must maintain a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate a minimum of one specialized type of heavy equipment per the Equipment Training Program.
• Drives trucks and trailer rigs to haul equipment and materials.
• Perform preventive equipment maintenance and minor repairs to ensure proper operating conditions.
• Report malfunctions and repair requirements to the crew lead or supervisor.
• Proficient in operating gas, diesel, and propane equipment and related tools.
• Perform work in storm water management facilities and on-stream erosion control projects.
