Job summary

Job description

Dragline Technician

A Dragline Technician performs inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and fabrication on draglines and their associated support equipment. This role requires deep mechanical expertise, strong troubleshooting abilities, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. The Dragline Technician ensures optimal performance and reliability of dragline systems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and report inspections of equipment and record data in forms, books, and computers.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, instructions, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Use aerial lifting equipment for elevated repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair air compressors and lube systems.
  • Use mechanical tooling and test instruments to accurately assess mechanical breakdowns.
  • Understand bearing, gearing, drive components, metal properties, and weld all metals.
  • Read and understand blueprints to assemble and fabricate parts.
  • Operate boom trucks, welding trucks, forklifts; perform all phases of welding and cutting.
  • Locate and repair cracks in metal parts and structural members.
  • Perform duties with little or no supervision.
  • Apply safety precautions for occupational hazards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Fluency in English; bilingual a plus.
  • Five years of verifiable heavy equipment maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of welding, cutting, air arcing, grinding, and metal properties.
  • Knowledge of machine assemblies, bearings, gearing, seals, and gear‑train rebuilding.
  • Proficiency in millwright and pipe‑fitter procedures.
  • Ability to operate company vehicles and maintain a valid MVR.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CDL license.
Advantageous Skills
  • Knowledge of AC and DC circuits and motors.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Install wiring, switches, relays, and control systems.
Education, Training, and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical or Electrical technical training from a vocational school or equivalent experience.
  • Prior dragline maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience in heavy equipment maintenance a plus.
  • Practical knowledge of welding equipment and repair; certification preferred.
  • Clean MVR.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and weekends.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Physical Demands
  • Standing up to 2 times per shift: welding, mechanical repairs.
  • Walking up to 2 times per shift: mechanical repairs, changing work locations.
  • Sitting occasionally: welding, mechanical repairs.
  • Lifting up to 75 lbs once per shift: tools, supplies, components.
  • Carrying up to 75 lbs once per shift.
  • Pushing, pulling up to 75 lbs once per shift.
  • Climbing once: dragline boom, plant structures, or mobile equipment.
  • Balancing once: dragline boom, plant structures, or mobile equipment.
  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling once: welding, mechanical repairs, inspections.
  • Reaching once: welding, mechanical repairs, inspections.
  • Handling often: welding, mechanical repairs, inspections.
  • Repetitive motions occasionally: welding, mechanical repairs.
  • Foot/leg movement occasionally: foot pedals.
  • Speaking: communication.
  • Hearing: communication, equipment problem detection, hazard recognition.
  • Seeing: working around rotating machinery, hazard recognition.
  • Depth perception: working around rotating machinery, hazard recognition.
  • Color vision: working around rotating machinery, hazard recognition.
