Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Drafting Engineer to support the FAA's National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) program in Jamaica, NY. You will develop site-specific drawings, schedules, and specifications and produce FAA-compliant documentation with a focus on quality and accuracy.

Responsibilities include conducting surveys, gathering data, researching applicable codes, preparing trip reports, and assisting with procurement inputs, cost estimates, and reviews of shop drawings and design

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering (or related field) and 2–4 years of experience.
• Experience in Building Envelope Design is preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation and Microsoft Office Suite required.

• Conduct site surveys, gather field data, and research relevant standards, codes, and ordinances.
• Analyze survey findings and provide actionable recommendations and engineering solutions.
• Prepare concise trip reports within two business days with scope, drawing lists, ORM checklists, and other documentation.
• Provide inputs for PRs, NAS NCPs, Airspace case documents, and government-furnished property lists.
• Generate cost estimates, project schedules, and environmental/safety assessments per FAA standards.
• Support all construction/renovation phases, review shop drawings and design proposals for compliance.
• Participate in inspections and provide engineering recommendations.

Drafting Engineer – National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC)

Location: FAA Central Service Area, Jamaica, NY

Leidos is seeking a Drafting Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Engineering Services Group within the National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) program. In this role, you’ll apply your technical expertise to a variety of complex engineering assignments that directly support the modernization and sustainment of critical FAA infrastructure.

You will work with a high degree of independence while collaborating closely with Project Engineers to deliver high‑quality, site‑specific engineering documentation and solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop site-specific project plans, drawings, and specifications used for engineering project solicitation and contracting.

• Conduct site surveys, gather field data, and research all relevant standards, codes, and ordinances (state, local, federal, FAA).

• Analyze survey findings and provide actionable recommendations and engineering solutions.

• Prepare concise trip reports within two business days, including scope of work, drawing lists, ORM checklists, and other required project documentation.

• Provide essential inputs for Purchase Requests (PRs), NAS Change Proposals (NCPs), Airspace case documents, and government‑furnished property lists.

• Generate cost estimates, project schedules, and environmental/safety compliance assessments per FAA standards and guidelines.

• Support all phases of construction and renovation projects, including reviewing shop drawings, design proposals, and compliance with technical requirements.

• Participate in Joint Acceptance Inspections (JAI) and Contractor Acceptance Inspections (CAI), offering recommendations for engineering‑related issues.

• Conduct feasibility and cost‑benefit engineering studies.

• Create accurate and FAA‑compliant project drawings.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering and 2–4 years of related experience (additional experience may substitute for degree).

• Experience in Building Envelope Design.

• Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

• Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

• Ability to travel up to 10%.

Desired Qualifications

• Knowledge of Unstaffed Infrastructure Sustainment (UIS) facilities.

• Familiarity with NASET/NASEB facilities, HVAC, power systems, general construction, HAZMAT, fire detection, security, site work.

• Experience with shelters, roofing, communication towers, Navigational Aids, earthwork, roads, and trenching.

• Knowledge of Corporate Work Plan (CWP) 4.1.12.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $59,150.00 - $106,925.00
