Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Drafting Engineer to support FAA’s National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) program at the Jamaica, NY location. You will develop site-specific drawings and specifications, perform field data collection, and ensure compliance with FAA standards while collaborating with project engineers.

You will generate cost estimates, schedules, and safety/environmental assessments, participate in inspections, and prepare documentation for PRs and NCPs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering and 2-4 years of related experience (additional experience may substitute for degree).
  • Experience in Building Envelope Design.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Develop site-specific project plans, drawings, and specifications used for engineering project solicitation and contracting.
  • Conduct site surveys, gather field data, and research standards, codes, and ordinances (state, local, federal, FAA).
  • Analyze survey findings and provide actionable recommendations and engineering solutions.
  • Prepare concise trip reports within two business days, including scope of work, drawing lists, ORM checklists, and other project documentation.
  • Provide inputs for Purchase Requests (PRs), NAS Change Proposals (NCPs), Airspace documents, and government-furnished property lists.
  • Generate cost estimates, project schedules, and environmental/safety compliance assessments per FAA standards.
  • Support all construction phases, including reviewing shop drawings and design proposals for compliance.
  • Participate in Joint Acceptance Inspections (JAI) and Contractor Acceptance Inspections (CAI).
  • Conduct feasibility and cost-benefit studies.
  • Create accurate and FAA-compliant project drawings.

Drafting Engineer - National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) Location: FAA Central Service Area, Jamaica, NY

Leidos is seeking a Drafting Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Engineering Services Group within the National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) program. In this role, you'll apply your technical expertise to a variety of complex engineering assignments that directly support the modernization and sustainment of critical FAA infrastructure.

You will work with a high degree of independence while collaborating closely with Project Engineers to deliver highquality, sitespecific engineering documentation and solutions.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop site-specific project plans, drawings, and specifications used for engineering project solicitation and contracting.
  • Conduct site surveys, gather field data, and research all relevant standards, codes, and ordinances (state, local, federal, FAA).
  • Analyze survey findings and provide actionable recommendations and engineering solutions.
  • Prepare concise trip reports within two business days, including scope of work, drawing lists, ORM checklists, and other required project documentation.

  • Create accurate and FAA-compliant project drawings.
Required Qualifications

Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Unstaffed Infrastructure Sustainment (UIS) facilities.
  • Familiarity with NASET/NASEB facilities, HVAC, power systems, general construction, HAZMAT, fire detection, security, site work.
  • Experience with shelters, roofing, communication towers, Navigational Aids, earthwork, roads, and trenching.
  • Knowledge of Corporate Work Plan (CWP) 4.1.12.

Pay Range:Pay Range $59,150.00 - $106,925.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
