Job description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Drafter to work on our Drafting team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off.

This position is located at our Materials and Fuels Complex, which hosts the core of the U.S. nuclear research and development capabilities with a diverse array of facilities designed for remote work on highly irradiated fuels and materials. A new fuel idea can be designed, fabricated, tested, and analyzed at MFC to better understand the effects of irradiation. Many groups, such as universities, industry partners, other national laboratories, international research organizations, and other federal agencies are working at MFC.

At Idaho National Laboratory, you'll prepare complex new drawings and drawing changes using 2D line work and 3D modeling, assist design engineers in determining dimensions, tolerances, and component selection, and perform the mathematical calculations that keep designs accurate and buildable. You'll collaborate with engineers across disciplines, contribute improvement ideas, and provide field documentation support that keeps Idaho National Laboratory's most critical projects moving forward.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare complex new drawings and perform drawing changes consistent with company and nationally recognized procedures and standards. This will include 2D line work and 3D modeling.
  • Assist in the determination of drawing elements, i.e., dimensions, part/component selection, tolerance, and design and process parameters. Evaluate design input from project engineers while working with design engineers.
  • Make required mathematical calculations (i.e., geometric, tolerance stack-up calculations).
  • Work with design engineers to specify parts, assemblies, and installation.
  • May contribute design modification ideas to improve the quality of the product or facilitate construction/fabrication.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Creo, AutoCAD, Revit, and other modeling software.
  • Occasionally collaborate with professionals outside of the home organization.
  • Report progress appropriately to project and line management as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Level 4: High School or equivalent and 6 years related experience.
  • Level 5: High School or equivalent and >6 years related experience.
  • Relevant experience includes HS CAD classes, college CAD classes, machine shop experience, experience with reading drawings in construction industry or other related industries.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Vocational certificate or related experience.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 4 ($36.08/hr - $59.52/hr)/ Level 5 ($41.42/hr - $70.41/hr) /. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field environment, which may include construction sites. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. May be exposed to discomforts associated with constant monitoring of computer video display screens. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior and various responsibilities.
