Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to operate power construction equipment for excavation, loading, hauling, and grading on road and right‑of‑way projects.

Responsibilities include maintaining equipment, basic repairs, loading and placing materials such as gravel and sand, trenching and laying pipes, and training crew on safe operation. Outdoor work, overtime, nights, and weekends required as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with field experience preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment operation and safety.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively with supervision.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy construction equipment to excavate, move, and grade material on roads and rights-of-way.
• Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade surfaces; spread rock and gravel.
• Trench and construct ditches for culverts and pipes; remove silt and debris.
• Inspect and maintain fluid levels and lubrication of equipment.
• Instruct and train crew in safe operation of equipment and tools; ensure compliance with plans and specs.
• Inspect equipment and materials to identify defects and correct issues.
