Job summary

City of Garland is seeking an Activation and Placemaking Coordinator to lead and support placemaking initiatives in Downtown Garland. You will work with City departments and community partners to plan, activate, and manage public space enhancements, art projects, and events that strengthen Downtown’s identity and support local businesses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of 2 years related experience in placemaking/events.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Event Planning/Management, Marketing, Communications or Hospitality.
• Preferred: at least 4 years event coordination experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, development, coordination, and implementation of placemaking initiatives and public space activations.
• Develop activation concepts to increase visitation and economic vitality.
• Coordinate promotional campaigns to support downtown businesses and activation efforts.
• Build and maintain relationships with businesses, community organizations, property owners, vendors, artists, sponsors, volunteers, and stakeholders.
• Develop and manage public art initiatives – murals, sculptures, interactive artwork, and other forms of public art.
• Create detailed project timelines for activations and events and communicate with internal departments and partners.
• Plan and oversee activation logistics including vendor coordination, permits, staffing, equipment, site layouts, and day-of-event operations.
• Provide on-site management of activation events and ensure safety and high-quality visitor experiences.
• Coordinate with City Departments to orchestrate the downtown calendar and maximize use of public spaces.
• Monitor program performance with attendance data, feedback, and economic indicators; prepare reports.
• Assist in developing marketing themes, promotional concepts, and activation strategies.
• Assist with reports, presentations, and correspondence for leadership and stakeholders.
• Perform administrative duties including inventory management, contracts, and event equipment.
