Job summary

The City of Garland is seeking an Activation and Placemaking Coordinator to lead and support initiatives that make Downtown Garland vibrant, welcoming, and engaging for residents, businesses, visitors, and partners. The role drives placemaking, public art, and programmed activations that strengthen Downtown's identity and foster community pride.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2 years related experience or equivalent.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, development, coordination, and implementation of placemaking initiatives and activations.
• Develop activation concepts to increase visitation and economic vitality.
• Coordinate promotional campaigns to support downtown businesses.
• Build relationships with downtown businesses, community organizations, property owners, vendors, and artists.
• Develop and manage public art initiatives—murals, sculptures, and installations.
• Create detailed project timelines for activations and events and maintain communication with partners.
• Plan and oversee activation logistics including vendors, permits, staffing, and site layouts.
• Execute on-site management of activation events ensuring safety and quality.
• Coordinate downtown calendar and event database with City Departments.
• Monitor program performance using attendance data and feedback; prepare reports.
• Assist with marketing themes and activation strategies aligned with branding.
