Job summary

Herbert Lumber Company, a family-owned sawmill, is seeking a Certified Lumber Grader. With 3+ years of verifiable lumber grading experience, you will help ensure precision in our Douglas Fir timbers and maintain high quality.

PLIB certification is preferred; forklift operation is required; you will inspect for knots, decay, splits, ring count and other defects, delivering accurate, detail-oriented results as part of our team that has built a reputation since 1947.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of verifiable lumber grading experience.
• PLIB certification preferred; other certifications considered upon review.
• Forklift driving experience required.

Responsibilities

• Identify defects (knots, decay, splits, ring count, edge faults) and evaluate lumber quality.
• Ensure precise grading and adherence to standards for Douglas Fir timbers.
• Operate forklift safely and efficiently within sawmill operations.

What We're Looking For:

• 3+ years of verifiable lumber grading experience
• PLIB certification preferred - other certifications will be considered upon review
• Forklift driving experience required
• Strong knowledge of R-List clear products
• Ability to accurately identify and evaluate defects, including knots, decay, splits, ring count, faulty edges, and more
• Extremely detail-oriented with a strong work ethic
• Someone who takes pride in the quality and accuracy of their work
