Job summary

prattexternalcareersite is hiring for a full-time, hourly position in New York state. The role runs 1st and 3rd shifts operating the double-backer, including setup, operation, cleanup, and process improvements. Requires at least 2 years in a Corrugator Department and a high school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities include setup, stock verification, splice work, and maintaining safety and quality records. Lift truck license may be required; physical demands include lifting up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in the Corrugator Department.
• Ability to read factory masters and follow instructions.
• Able to read a tape measure and perform basic calculations.
• Must be able to stand, lift up to 50 lbs regularly, up to 100 lbs occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Set up bridge guides and glue station using proper setup techniques.
• Verify correct roll stock and maintain lineups.
• Load and change rolls, splice papers as needed.
• Adjust tension, alignment, adhesion, and warp controls during runs.
• Maintain cleanliness of the double-backer area and related equipment.
• Complete production, machine status, safety, and quality reports timely.
• Assist Corrugator Operator and train dry end personnel.
• Adhere to production schedules and assist in schedule optimization.
• Comply with company safety policies and housekeeping standards.

Job description

Salary range: $19.50 - $24.50 per hour

FLSA: Full Time, Hourly

Shifts: 1st and 3rd

Responsible for all activities associated with running the double-backer including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set up bridge guides and glue station in accordance with proper setup techniques.
• Check wet end lineups to verify correct roll stock is received and used.
• Put rolls of paper in mill roll stands ensuring proper size and grade of paper to be run and make splices and paper changes as necessary.
• Make adjustments during runs for tension, alignment, adhesion, and warp control.
• Trim only the necessary amount of paper from the rolls when preparing for splices.
• Remove roll stock from the machine when necessary and mark the proper size, grade, diameter, and lineal footage on the roll and place core plugs in each end of the buttrolls.
• Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the double-backer at available capacity and speed in line with those of the corrugator.
• Clean starch pans, metering rolls, and glue rolls when necessary.
• Keep the doublebacker area clean.
• Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data.
• Turn in maintenance work orders to supervisor for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
• Take all paper off of cores of stub rolls.
• Assist the Corrugator Operator as necessary.
• Assist in the training of dry end personnel.
• Adheres to production schedule. Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality and service goals. Reports any unusual scheduling issues to Supervisor.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
• Additional duties may be assigned by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED.

Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience working in the Corrugator Department.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.

The individual must have a working knowledge of the following:

May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
