Job summary

Pratt Industries in Lewisburg, AL is seeking a skilled operator to run the single-facer and assist wet-end and dry-end operations, including setup, operation, cleanup, and process improvements.

You will monitor quality, trim and splice rolls, and participate in training and safety programs while adhering to company policies. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and physical ability to lift up to 50–100 pounds.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
• Prior corrugated industry experience preferred.
• Experience on the dry end of a corrugator or as a Double Backer Operator is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate the single-facers to maintain high production and quality.
• Check wet end line-ups to verify correct roll stock usage.
• Place rolls in mill stands, perform splices and paper changes as needed.
• Trim only the necessary paper during splices and prepare for runs.
• Move roll stock, mark size/grade/footage, and set core plugs on butt rolls.
• Monitor board quality during runs and adjust as needed.
• Submit maintenance work orders for repairs.
• Clean starch pan, glue roll and single-facer area after changes and weekly.
• Assist in wet end training for double backer and dry end personnel.
• Comply with safety, housekeeping, and company policies.
• Additional duties may be assigned by management.

SUMMARY

Responsible for all activities associated with running the single-facer and assisting in wet-end and dry-end operations, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations.

Pay starts at $18.15, based on experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate the single-facers to produce the highest level of production and quality.
• Check wet end line-ups to verify correct roll stock is received and used.
• Put rolls of paper in mill roll stands ensuring proper size and grade of paper to be run and make splices and paper changes as necessary.
• Trim only the necessary amount of paper from the rolls when preparing for splices.
• Remove roll stock from the machine when necessary and mark the proper size, grade, diameter and lineal footage on the roll and place core plugs in each end of the butt rolls.
• Continuously monitor the board during runs to ensure quality and make adjustments as necessary.
• Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs.
• Clean starch pan, glue roll and single-facer area after changing flutes and at the end of the production week.
• Take all paper off of cores of stub rolls.
• Assist in the wet end training of the double backer and dry end personnel.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
• Additional duties may be assigned by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Minimum high school diploma or GED required
• Candidates are preferred who offer the following:
  • Prior work experience in the corrugated industry
  • 6 months experience on the dry end of the corrugator
  • 6 months experience as a Double Backer Operator

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

The individual must have a working knowledge of the following:

• Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
• Product layouts and production specifications
• Product quality specifications
• Quality standards

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
