Job summary

NOW Courier is seeking a DOT Safety & Compliance Specialist to support the Fleet Services department by maintaining compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company safety policies. You will monitor driver compliance, promote safe driving, assist with fleet inspections, and support onboarding and training to foster a safety culture.

The role requires collaboration with operations, audits, and safety initiatives; strong knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations; experience with ELD systems, safety analytics;

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Management, Logistics, or related field.
  • CSP or CDS certification is desirable.
  • Prior experience in transportation/logistics preferred.

Job description

The DOT Safety & Compliance Specialist supports the Fleet Services department by maintaining compliance with all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), company safety policies, and operational standards. This position plays a key role in monitoring driver compliance, promoting safe driving behaviors, assisting with fleet inspections, supporting driver onboarding and training efforts, and helping maintain a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
Driver Compliance Monitoring
  • Review daily Hours of Service (HOS) violations and identify non-compliance trends.
  • Conduct coaching discussions with drivers regarding HOS violations and corrective actions.
  • Monitor electronic logging device (ELD) activity and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Review and assign unassigned driving events to the appropriate drivers for verification and approval.
  • Maintain accurate records of driver coaching and corrective actions.
Safety Monitoring and Driver Coaching
  • Review inward and outward-facing camera events to identify coaching opportunities and recognize safe driving behaviors.
  • Participate in driver coaching sessions to improve safety performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in tracking driver performance metrics and documenting progress.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of driver performance improvement plans and safety initiatives.
Fleet Compliance and Vehicle Inspections
  • Conduct routine fleet yard inspections.
  • Identify potential DOT violations or vehicle deficiencies and coordinate corrective action with maintenance personnel.
  • Monitor vehicle compliance documentation and assist in preparing for DOT inspections and audits.
  • Assist with the coordination and transportation of rental equipment and vehicles as needed.
Safety Program Support
  • Participate in warehouse and facility safety inspections to identify hazards and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Partner with operational leaders to address safety concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor safety trends, incidents, and near misses, escalating concerns to management when necessary.
  • Assist in recognizing employees for exemplary safety performance and positive contributions.
Driver Development and Onboarding
  • Collaborate with Recruiting and Operations teams regarding new driver onboarding activities.
  • Assist with driver orientation, training documentation, and progress tracking.
  • Monitor completion of required training and compliance requirements for newly hired drivers.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain safety and compliance records, reports, and documentation.
  • Prepare safety-related reports and metrics for management review.
  • Support audits, investigations, and compliance reviews as assigned.Assist with special projects and other duties related to fleet safety and compliance.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) in Occupational Safety, Safety Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or a related field; and 5 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Director Safety (CDS) certification is desired. Prior experience in the transportation, logistics, or courier industry is preferred.

  • Safety certifications (CSP/CDS/ASP) are preferred

This job operates primarily in a professional office environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. However, job duties may require one to operate in a warehouse environment with moderate safety/health hazard potential. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. This role is required to be on-site.

While the offices of NOW Courier are open from 8AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday, this job may require work beyond these hours and on the weekends.
