Job summary

First-Physicians is seeking a friendly Medical Assistant to support clinicians with daily patient care, rooming patients, taking vitals, assisting with procedures, and managing referrals, while focusing on DOT physicals and occupational health services.

You will perform EKGs, specimen collection, vaccines, and point-of-care testing, while ensuring HIPAA compliance and accurate documentation. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• MA certification or MA program completion.
• Current BLS/CPR certification.
• Strong clinical skills: vitals, injections, specimen collection.
• Excellent attention to detail and documentation.
• Warm, professional communication with patients, providers, and employers.
• Experience with DOT physicals and FMCSA forms preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and room patients; take vitals and document chief complaints and allergies in Athena.
• Assist with exams, procedures, injections, and wound care.
• Collect/process lab specimens; perform point-of-care tests (UA, glucose, strep, flu, COVID).
• Administer vaccines/medications as directed by provider.
• Perform EKGs and other in-office testing as needed.
• Handle referrals, prior authorizations, and prescription refills.
• Make follow-up calls and relay instructions/test results.
• Keep exam rooms clean, stocked, and ready.
• Support front desk with check-in and scheduling when busy.
• Protect patient privacy; follow HIPAA/OSHA policies.
• DOT-specific tasks and charting as applicable.
