West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition Contract at the West Valley Demonstration Project site. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, West Valley Demonstration Project continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION

Perform variety of technical and administrative assignments related to the Dosimetry Program, which monitors dose radiation for the West Valley Demonstration Project.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Grade 16 - Education/Experience:

• Associates degree in a math or science discipline with coursework in algebra, biology, chemistry, and/or physics or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Working knowledge of various computer software including Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel and ability to use computer equipment.
• Subject to shift work.

Grade 17 - Education/Experience:

• Associates degree in a math or science discipline with coursework in algebra, biology, chemistry, and/or physics or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated related experience. Working knowledge of various computer software including Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel and ability to use computer equipment.
• Subject to shift work.

Other Requirements:

• Must have the ability to satisfactory complete qualification standard for Rad Worker -I or Rad Worker -II.
• Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all other qualifications deemed necessary.
• Must obtain and maintain D.O.E. Access authorization.
• Gives and receives information, resolves problems, provides information regarding dosimetry operations to regulatory agencies, vendors, suppliers, former employees, etc.
• Daily contact within group or department staff members to exchange information regarding work assignments. Frequent contact with other departments to answer questions and exchange information. Provide outstanding responsiveness in customer service for dosimetry users and their managers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK

Grade 16:

• Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations.
• Adhere to standards contained in the Company “Code of Conduct,” Company EEO practices, and DOE directives.
• Complete a variety of standard administrative duties within office or laboratory setting.
• Assist in the processing of field dosimeter, configuring the system to properly communicate with the dosimeter reader, and initiating database management.
• Assist in the calibration and maintenance of the dosimeter Reader. Uses the photon and frequency counter conversion factors and performs diagnostic evaluation of reader faults.
• Assist in the calibration of the dosimeter Irradiator and uses the intercomparison study to calculate dose rate factor.
• Develops element correction factors and dose equivalent algorithm theory. Converts corrected element response to actual dose equivalent using an algorithm.
• Assists in investigating anomalies in dosimeter results. Analyzes raw data, calculated dose, and historical records to determine trends.
• Generates and transmits dosimetry records for permanent storage.
• Regular onsite attendance is required.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Grade 17:

• Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations.
• Adhere to standards contained in the Company “Code of Conduct,” Company EEO practices, and DOE directives.
• Generate and distribute reports and perform routine dosimetry records maintenance activities.
• Maintaining accurate radiation health records to manage and track personnel exposure and perform quality control checks throughout all processes to ensure all records are accurate.
• Responsible for the processing of field dosimeter, configuring the system to properly communicate with the dosimeter reader, and initiating database management.
• Responsible for the calibration and maintenance of the dosimeter reader. Determines the photon and frequency counter conversion factors and performs diagnostic evaluation of reader faults.
• Responsible for the calibration of the dosimeter Irradiator. Assists in intercomparison study to calculate dose rate factor.
