Job summary

The Cleveland Foundation seeks an experienced Accountant to safeguard financial integrity across gifts, grants, donor funds, and spending policy. You will support reconciliation, reporting, cash receipts, fixed assets, and audit confirmations in collaboration with Philanthropy, Grants Management, Investments, and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or similar environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems; ability to work accurately with large volumes of transactional data.
  • Accounting Knowledge: Working knowledge of GAAP, fund and grants accounting, and month-end close processes.

Responsibilities

  • Process and record gifts, pledge payments, and donor transactions accurately and promptly.
  • Reconcile gift activity across donor funds, investment pools, banking, and general ledger.
  • Maintain fund-level accounting records and resolve questions with Philanthropy/Finance colleagues.
  • Post cash receipts and reconcile activity to bank records and GL accounts.
  • Record grant commitments, payments, cancellations, and related accounting activity.
  • Record investment transactions and support monthly investment accounting and reporting.
