Lifeline of Ohio coordinates and promotes organ, eye, and tissue donation across Ohio. We are seeking a Donation Support Services Coordinator - Night Shift to join our team. A DSS Coordinator organizes and assists with tasks to ensure donation efforts run smoothly across multiple stakeholders. They facilitate communication and ensure compliance with all regulatory, governing, and accepting agencies to maximize organ, eye, and tissue donation. The coordinator works closely with hospital staff, funeral homes, coroners, tissue technicians, and organ recovery staff to coordinate the donation process. They also ensure families are educated and aware of donation opportunities.

*This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefits-eligible position. Schedule includes a mix of 12-hour and 8-hour shifts, with alternating weekends and some holidays. Only candidates from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, or South Carolina will be considered at this time.*

Responsibilities
  1. Referral Initiation:
  • Obtain and enter patient medical and social information provided by partners.
  • Ensure relevant referral/case information is communicated to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Communicate with external partners and provide necessary follow-up.
  • Identify initial suitability for tissue and eye donors.
  • Assess appropriate state donor registry status or contact the organ procurement organization for designation.
  • Evaluation:
    • Document and evaluate medical suitability criteria for potential tissue and eye donors.
    • Understand and apply policies, procedures, and standards relevant to donor suitability.
    • Communicate with the Coroner as applicable to obtain permission for donation.
    • Build positive, professional rapport with tissue processor staff.
  • Authorization:
    • Coordinate and obtain authorization for donation, working with internal and external partners.
    • Work with the legal next of kin to identify donation potential, provide core elements during authorization, and compile required questionnaires.
    • Support donor families with follow-up as needed.
    • Contact tissue/eye processors for review and acceptance of donor.
    • Communicate authorization details to all stakeholders.
    • Document information in the database.
    • Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory Affairs to ensure documentation standards are met.
  • Case Follow-up:
    • Coordinate transportation for donor recovery.
    • Complete follow-up calls during case progression and post-case.
    • Determine appropriate approach intervals based on case dynamics.
    • Ensure timely completion of case checklists.
    • Deliver shift reports and receive reports from the previous shift.
    Requirements

    Education and Experience:

    • Healthcare-related certification or secondary degree preferred.
    • 2+ years experience in a call center or relevant healthcare environment.
    • Able to work night shift hours.
