Job summary

Crisis Center of Comal County in New Braunfels, TX, is seeking a Donation Station Associate. You will welcome donors, sort donations, and move items to the thrift shop, storage, or client-service areas. This fast-paced, outdoor role requires physical work and a friendly, service-driven approach.

Schedule: Tue–Sat, 9:30 AM–6:30 PM with flexibility. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, TX driver’s license, strong customer service, and ability to lift up to 60 pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Basic communication, organizational, and math skills.
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 60 pounds and perform physically demanding work throughout the day.
• Ability to work primarily outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
• Successful completion of required background screening, including fingerprinting, drug screening, and driving record check.
• Preferred: bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
• First Aid and CPR certification is required but may be completed after hire with agency guidance.

Responsibilities

• Welcome donors and provide friendly, professional customer service—even during busy donation periods.
• Help unload bags, boxes, furniture, household items, and other donations.
• Inspect donations for condition, cleanliness, safety, and resale potential.
• Sort merchandise by department, category, size, season, and priority.
• Recognize name brands, vintage pieces, valuable merchandise, and items that may require special pricing.
• Keep the donation station clean, organized, safe, and ready for the next donor.
• Move merchandise efficiently between the donation station, sorting areas, storage, and retail floor.
• Assist with pricing, tagging, hanging, stocking, inventory, and general thrift shop operations.
• Help with donation pickups, deliveries, community events, and other agency activities.
• When assigned, assist survivors and clients with vouchers and essential-item needs while protecting their dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
• Work alongside staff and volunteers to keep the thrift operation running smoothly.
• Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned while following agency safety, security, and confidentiality practices.

About the Role

As a Donation Station Associate, you’ll play an important role in making that mission possible. Every day, donated clothing, furniture, household goods, and other items come through our doors—and your work helps turn those donations into resources that support survivors and families while generating revenue for critical Crisis Center programs.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced position for someone who likes to stay busy, work with people, and see the results of their work. You’ll be the friendly face welcoming donors, helping unload donations, determining what can be accepted, sorting and organizing merchandise, and moving quality items into the thrift shop, storage, or client-service areas.

Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 9:30 AM–6:30 PM (Flexibility Required)

What You’ll Do

Welcome donors and provide friendly, professional customer service—even during busy donation periods.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role?

We’re looking for someone who is dependable, energetic, organized, and comfortable getting their hands dirty. You should enjoy interacting with people, be able to make good decisions about incoming merchandise, and be comfortable working independently while staying connected to the team.

This position is primarily based outdoors at the donation station, so you must be comfortable working in Texas weather—including heat, cold, wind, and rain. You’ll regularly lift and move donations weighing up to 60 pounds and spend much of the day standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and loading or unloading merchandise.

If you enjoy a job where no two donation loads are exactly alike, you like discovering great merchandise, and you want your work to have a purpose beyond simply selling products, this could be the position for you.

What We’re Looking For

Required:

High school diploma or GED.

Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance.

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Basic communication, organizational, and math skills.

Ability to safely lift and carry up to 60 pounds and perform physically demanding work throughout the day.

Ability to work primarily outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Successful completion of required background screening, including fingerprinting, drug screening, and driving record check.

Preferred:

Experience in donations, thrift retail, warehouse operations, moving, delivery, inventory, or another physically demanding position.

Knowledge of clothing brands, vintage merchandise, household goods, furniture, or resale value.

Experience operating a box truck or similar vehicle.

Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.

First Aid and CPR certification is required but may be completed after hire with agency guidance.
