Job summary

The Salvation Army Family Store in St. Joseph, MO is seeking a Donation Processing Associate. You will help accept, process, sort, and prepare donated items while delivering excellent donor service.

This role offers paid training, opportunities to develop customer service, retail, and warehouse skills, and a flexible, team‑oriented environment. The position is part‑time, 25 hours per week, with pay at $15.00 per hour.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or currently pursuing.
  • Strong English communication skills for donor and team interactions.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new systems.
  • Basic math skills and ability to work with numbers.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must be available for a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Greet donors and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Assist donors with unloading and accepting donations.
  • Accurately process and track donated items.
  • Inspect donations and identify acceptable materials.
  • Safeguard all donated goods and assigned equipment.
  • Educate donors on donation guidelines and available services.
  • Sort, categorize, and process donated merchandise according to Salvation Army standards.
  • Power sort donations as received, where applicable.
  • Support production goals and processing standards.
  • Load and unload Salvation Army trucks in accordance with center policy.
  • Assist with moving merchandise and materials throughout the facility.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe donation area.
  • Follow company policies and safety procedures.
  • Report complaints, injuries, equipment issues, or property damage promptly.
  • Assist with maintaining an efficient donation flow and processing area.
  • Paid training on donation procedures and production standards.
  • Hands-on instruction for donation processing and merchandise handling.
  • Ongoing coaching and support from store leadership.
  • Opportunities to develop customer service, retail, and warehouse skills.

As a Donation Processing Associate, you'll play a key role in accepting, processing, sorting, and preparing donated items while delivering outstanding customer service to our donors. What You'll Do
Donation Receiving & Processing
  • Greet donors and provide exceptional customer service
  • Assist donors with unloading and accepting donations

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift throughout the workday
  • Ability to regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to move larger items with assistance when needed
  • Work in varying temperatures and conditions common to warehouse and donation center environments
