Job summary

The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Des Moines, IA is seeking a professional and courteous Donation Pickup & Delivery Driver to transport materials to and from designated destinations. This full-time role supports essential community programs and represents our organization with donors.

You will follow scheduled routes, perform pre- and post-trip inspections, assist with loading, unloading, and safe handling of goods, and provide excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years licensed driving experience.
• Must pass pre-employment DOT screen, drug test, and background check.

Responsibilities

• Follow scheduled routing procedures.
• Drive Salvation Army truck for pickups and deliveries.
• Ensure security and safe handling of all goods and materials.

Location: Des Moines, IA
Pay: $18.00 per hour
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule:40 hours per week, Monday - Saturday mostly 1st shift but flexible scheduling required

About the Role

At The Salvation Army Thrift Store, your work helps turn donations into funding for programs that support people in our community. We're seeking a professional and courteous driver to transport materials to and from specified destinations. This role is essential in representing The Salvation Army while providing exceptional service to our donors and maintaining efficient operations.

What You’ll Do

Transportation & Logistics

• Follow scheduled routing procedures efficiently
• Drive Salvation Army truck for pickups and deliveries
• Ensure security and safe handling of all goods and materials
• Perform daily pre and post-trip inspections of vehicles
• Maintain equipment in excellent working order
• Comply with all DOT and OSHA regulations
• Train and Certify New Production Assistants

Customer Service

• Act as a personal representative of The Salvation Army
• Ensure all donors are treated courteously and respectfully
• Communicate donation acceptance policy with donors
• Report any pickup problems to dispatcher
• Maintain professional appearance per ARC dress code

Operations Support

• Use DSS program and assigned iPad apps effectively
• Support beneficiaries in work therapy goals through training and mentoring
• Handle loading and unloading of trucks as needed
• Wear all assigned PPE including gloves, masks, and back guard
• Report any safety or security concerns immediately

What You Need

Required

Education & Experience

• High School Degree or equivalent
• At least two years licensed driving experience
• Must pass pre-employment DOT screen, drug test, and background check

Required Certifications

• Valid Driver's License

Physical Requirements

• Must regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds
