Job summary

NVA Pet Resorts in Michigan is seeking a full-time Professional Dog Trainer to join our resort team and help deliver exceptional pet care. You’ll train dogs from puppies to adults using reward-based methods, work with parents on goals, and document progress for each session.

Responsibilities include creating training plans, conducting private lessons and group classes, maintaining high standards of dog education, and collaborating with other departments.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in training animals or equivalent education.
• Knowledge of dogs, dog behavior, and breed characteristics.
• CCPDT certification or ability to obtain within one year.

Responsibilities

• Training with assigned dogs daily.
• Prepare training plans to assist clients with behavior modification.
• Meet with clients to discuss training expectations and progress.
• Provide enrichment to training dogs.
• Document dog behavior and training status for each session (in-person, email, video).
• Adhere to LIMA training standards using positive reinforcement.
• Conduct group classes and private lessons.
• Assist with additional sessions, including virtual training when asked.
