The Manager of Transportation will foster a culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost efficiency. They will lead engagement with drivers, ensure top-tier service to customers, and oversee safe, profitable operations. Using their transportation expertise, they will manage personnel and ensure the safe, accurate, and timely outbound shipments to customers and distribution centers.

This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible for the DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of active-duty. This unpaid, non-benefit internship is in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Lead with a safety-first approach, promoting injury-free interactions among associates, customers, and the public. Champion safety procedures and training.
  2. Oversee and develop drivers and transportation staff through coaching, training, and performance management, ensuring compliance with safety and legal standards.
  3. Foster open communication and motivate team members to meet department goals.
  4. Supervise work and productivity within the transportation team, promoting engagement and embodying US Foods values.
  5. Participate in hiring processes, review performance, and manage disciplinary actions to build high-performing teams.
  6. Monitor delivery accuracy, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  7. Identify waste, improve processes, and ensure safety and efficiency.
  8. Conduct safety and driver meetings, oversee maintenance of driver files, and investigate accidents to implement preventative measures.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Schedule shifts using planning tools like Microsoft Excel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision and Relationships

Supervise union and/or non-union drivers. Collaborate with transportation leaders, drivers, warehouse staff, and internal customers. External interactions include customers.

Work Environment

Time spent on the road, exposure to noise and vibration, and time in an office working on a computer.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least three years in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution.
  • One year of workforce supervision experience.

Experience as a driver is a plus. Knowledge of transportation operations, leadership, DOT regulations, and basic computer skills are required.

Travel and Education

Approximately 10% travel; high school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

Physical Qualifications

Ability to perform activities such as driving, pushing/pulling, climbing, grasping, manipulating objects, and manual dexterity tasks.

Compensation

Based on experience, education, skills, location, and legal factors. Expected base salary ranges from $55,000 to $90,000.
