The Manager, Transportation will foster a culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost by engaging with drivers, providing excellent service to customers, and ensuring safe and profitable operations. They will leverage their transportation operations experience to manage personnel and drive efficient outbound shipments to customers and distribution centers.

This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible for the DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of active-duty service. This is an unpaid, non-benefit internship in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Lead with a safety-first mindset, ensuring injury-free interactions with associates, customers, and the public. Promote safety procedures, training, and a safety culture within the Transportation department.
  2. Oversee and develop drivers and transportation associates through coaching, training, and leading by example. Ensure all team members are trained in safety, legal responsibilities, and job duties.
  3. Discuss performance with senior management and develop plans to address performance gaps.
  4. Create an environment that encourages upward communication and motivates staff to meet department goals.
  5. Supervise work and productivity within the department, fostering engagement and embodying US Foods values.
  6. Participate in hiring, review performance, coach staff, and manage disciplinary actions to build high-performing teams.
  7. Monitor production, ensure accuracy, and troubleshoot delivery issues, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations.
  8. Identify waste, improve processes, and enhance safety and efficiency.
  9. Conduct safety and driver meetings, oversee maintenance of driver qualification files, and investigate accidents to prevent future incidents.
  10. Schedule shifts using planning tools like Microsoft Excel.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
Supervision and Relationships

Supervise union and non-union drivers. Collaborate with internal teams across departments and interact with customers externally.

Work Environment

Spend time on the road and in trucks, exposed to noise and vibration, and in an office working on a computer.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least three years in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Driving experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of transportation operations and procedures.
  • Leadership and communication skills.
  • Understanding of DOT, OSHA, and inventory regulations.
  • Ability to interpret data and basic computer skills.
Travel

Approximately 10% travel required for meetings and training.

Education and Physical Requirements

High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred. Must be able to perform physical activities related to driving, lifting, climbing, grasping, manipulating objects, and manual dexterity.

Compensation varies based on experience, skills, location, and other factors, with an expected base salary between $55,000 and $90,000.
