The Manager, Transportation will foster a culture focused on safety, service, and cost efficiency by engaging with drivers, providing excellent service to customers, and ensuring safe and profitable operations. They will leverage their transportation operations experience to manage personnel and oversee efficient outbound shipments to customers and distribution centers.

This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible for a DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of active duty. This unpaid, non-benefit internship is in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Lead with a safety-first approach, ensuring injury-free interactions among associates, customers, and the public. Promote safety procedures, training, and a safety culture within the Transportation department.
  2. Develop drivers and associates through coaching, training, and performance discussions, ensuring compliance with safety and legal standards.
  3. Encourage open communication and motivate team members to meet department goals.
  4. Supervise work and productivity of drivers and clerical staff, fostering engagement and embodying US Foods values.
  5. Participate in hiring, review performance, coach, and address disciplinary issues to build high-performing teams.
  6. Monitor production goals, ensure accuracy, troubleshoot delivery issues, and comply with DOT regulations.
  7. Identify waste, improve processes, and ensure safety and efficiency.
  8. Conduct safety and driver meetings, oversee driver qualification files, and investigate accidents to prevent future incidents.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Schedule shifts using planning tools like Microsoft Excel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
Supervision

Direct supervision of union and/or non-union drivers.

Relationships

Internal: Transportation leaders, drivers, warehouse staff, sales, and other departments. External: Customers.

Work Environment

Primarily on the road, with exposure to noise and vibration; also in an office setting.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least three years of experience in transportation, delivery, or warehouse distribution.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Driving experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of transportation operations and regulations.
  • Leadership and communication skills.
  • Understanding of DOT, OSHA, and inventory control.
  • Ability to interpret data and basic computer skills.
Travel

Approximately 10%, mainly for meetings and training.

Education/Training

High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

Physical Qualifications

Ability to perform activities such as driving, pushing/pulling, climbing, grasping, manipulating objects, and manual dexterity.

Compensation

Range between $55,000 and $90,000, depending on experience, skills, location, and other factors.
