Job description

AMPI owns seven Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation's American-type cheese, processed cheese, and butter is produced. The cooperative's award-winning cheese, butter, and powdered dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail, and food ingredient customers. In 2019, the co-op launched its Dinner Bell Creamery brand and the Co-op Crafted promise, highlighting over 50 years of partnership with dairy farm families and skilled buttermakers and cheesemakers.


This internship provides an opportunity for a qualified candidate to participate in a training program that could lead to a full-time role similar to the one described below. DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from AMPI, as they continue to receive military pay and benefits.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This list is not exhaustive and may be expanded as needed by management:


  1. Report employee safety, food safety, and food quality issues to authorities.
  2. Support environmental, health, and safety initiatives at the facility, including training and enforcement of safety programs.
  3. Conduct safety training in compliance with OSHA regulations and promote safe work behaviors.
  4. Manage industrial hygiene programs, including medical testing, respiratory testing, and contaminant monitoring.
  5. Oversee waste inspections, containerization, labeling, and disposal, maintaining proper records.
  6. Document site EHS monitoring activities such as noise levels, gas concentrations, and water samples.
  7. Implement drug and alcohol testing programs in accordance with laws.
  8. Perform compliance inspections, recordkeeping, and corrective actions.
  9. Manage safety programs related to life safety, forklift operations, hazard communication, and others.
  10. Promote safety awareness through communications and training.
  11. Support maintenance and quality assurance efforts to ensure safety and food safety standards.
  12. Identify hazards and develop corrective actions through facility audits.
  13. Manage DOT driver files, drug screenings, and related documentation.
  14. Analyze safety and health data to identify trends and improve programs.
  15. Oversee workers' compensation claims, investigations, and corrective actions.
  16. Maintain OSHA and environmental reporting and documentation.
  17. Keep records of occupational health and safety training.
  18. Facilitate effective communication about safety issues among employees.
