Job summary

Penn State University Police and Public Safety Department seeks a non-sworn Armed Public Safety Officer (APSO) to support DoD-cleared facilities at the University’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL). The officer will enforce DoD and university regulations, patrol facilities, respond to alarms, investigate incidents, and manage emergencies while ensuring controlled access.

Candidates must have a GED or HS diploma, PA driver’s license, and required certifications, and be eligible for PA Act 235

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce University and DoD regulations.
• Patrol designated buildings and ensure security controls are active.
• Respond to alarms, investigate incidents, communicate via radio, and request assistance as needed.
• Conduct preliminary investigations of security and safety incidents.
• Respond to fires, medical emergencies and other hazards; assist with emergency actions.
• Establish and monitor access procedures for employees and visitors and screen materials.
• Assist with special University events as needed.
