Job summary

Good Shepherd Rehabilitation seeks a Document Image Technician to maintain and organize patient health information in both physical and digital formats. You will verify accuracy and scan data into the EHR to keep records current and accessible.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in medical office/health information management preferred.
  • 2 years of medically related clerical experience preferred.
  • Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English.

Job description

  • The Document Image Technician is responsible for maintaining and organizing patient health information in both physical and digital formats. This involves gathering patient information, verifying its accuracy and scanning information into the electronic medical record (EHR) to ensure that patient information is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensures medical record availability collecting all discharged medical records received via the courier on a daily basis or as neededby collecting all loose sheet filing via the courier on discharged charts and scans filing in Cerner on a daily basis or as needed
  • PREPPING
  • Ensure all medical records are prepped appropriately by including the correct patient demographics/patient identifiers on all documents and ensure each paper is properly prepared by removing stapes, adding missing labels, and taping loose papers accordingly before scanning papers into EHRthe correct account numbers of every chart.
  • SCANNING
  • Ensure that each document in properly scanned into the EHR maintaining that medical records are scanned properly ensuring that each page is recognizable and belongs to the appropriate encounter/patient.
  • VERIFYING
  • Will catch, correct all scanning errors and will double check to ensure that demographics/patient identifiers match the data found on the record.
  • FILING
  • Will file documents/records appropriately and in an organized fashion.
  • INTEGRITY OF MEDICAL RECORDS
  • Will never compromise the integrity of the patient’s record in any way such as deleting images without replacing same or not scanning all documents required, not correcting bad images when discovered, or indexing incorrect information on records.

  • Education
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree in medical office/health information management with successful completion of medical and anatomical terminology courses preferred
  • Work Experience
  • 2 years of medically related clerical experience preferred
  • Computer/data entry experience, ability to accurately sort documents alphabetically and numerically, including by terminal digit.
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative medical record analysis.
  • Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English, with the ability to communicate clearly and tactfully’ writes legibly and spells correctly.
