Job summary

GCS Recruitment in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a DOCSIS Device SME to lead hardware and software aspects of cable modems and residential gateways on-site. This contract-to-hire role focuses on architecture, firmware, interoperability, provisioning, security, and deployment for next-generation broadband solutions.

You will collaborate with chipset vendors and engineering teams, analyze logs and telemetry, and guide customer deployments.

Qualifications

• Experience with DOCSIS 3.0/3.1 and familiarity with DOCSIS 4.0 is required.
• Strong understanding of cable modem and gateway hardware and software.
• Proficiency in embedded Linux environments and networking protocols.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical lead for DOCSIS cable modem and gateway platforms.
• Support device architecture, firmware, and feature integration across DOCSIS 3.0/3.1 and 4.0.
• Investigate and resolve complex firmware, networking, provisioning, security, and hardware issues.
• Collaborate with Broadcom, MaxLinear, CMTS providers, and engineering teams to drive improvements.
• Analyze logs, captures, telemetry to identify root causes and optimize performance.
• Support provisioning, certificates, PKI, secure boot, and firmware upgrades.
• Guide customers during deployments, escalations, and field issues.

Hiring: DOCSIS Device SME

Locations: Sunnyvale, CA

We are seeking a DOCSIS Device SME with strong expertise across both the hardware and software aspects of Cable Modems and Residential Gateways. This role will focus on DOCSIS device architecture, firmware, interoperability, provisioning, security, performance optimization, and customer deployments for next-generation broadband solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical lead for DOCSIS-based cable modem and gateway platforms.
• Support device architecture, firmware functionality, and feature integration across DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1, and emerging DOCSIS 4.0 technologies.
• Investigate and resolve complex device-side issues involving firmware, networking, provisioning, security, and hardware components.
• Work closely with chipset vendors (Broadcom, MaxLinear, etc.), CMTS providers, and engineering teams to drive product improvements and issue resolution.
• Analyze device logs, packet captures, telemetry, and system behavior to identify root causes and optimize performance.
• Support DOCSIS provisioning, configuration management, certificates, PKI, secure boot, and firmware upgrade mechanisms.
• Provide technical guidance for customer deployments, escalations, and field issues.

What We're Looking For

• Strong experience with DOCSIS 3.0/3.1 (DOCSIS 4.0 preferred)
• Deep understanding of cable modem and broadband gateway hardware and software stacks
• Knowledge of DOCSIS provisioning, registration, bonding, security, DHCP, TFTP, DNS, IPv4/IPv6, NAT, and SNMP
• Experience working with embedded Linux environments and networking protocols
• Familiarity with Broadcom, MaxLinear, or similar DOCSIS chipset platforms
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis skills across firmware, networking, and device hardware layers
