Job summary

Saia is a leading logistics and transportation company seeking a Dockworker Assistant to support terminal operations and lead dockworkers in daily tasks. You will help load and unload freight from trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment, while following DOT regulations and maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 18+ years old, and ability to read and write English for shipping documents.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include being at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
• Authorized to work in the United States and able to read, write and understand English for shipping documents and safety instructions.
• Preferred qualifications include forklift certification or hazmat training and 2 years of warehouse or dock experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists supervisors with leading and directing the daily functions of dockworkers.
• Coaches, trains, and mentors new and existing dockworkers.
• Loads and unloads trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment in compliance with regulations.
• Operates dock tools to ensure freight is loaded securely and properly.
• Inspects shipments and secures freight for loading/unloading.
• Follows bill and quality control procedures to ensure timely, cost-efficient shipments.
• Logs and processes freight shortages and damages.
• Promotes and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
