Job summary

Saia Inc. is seeking a hands-on dock worker lead who will assist supervisors in directing daily terminal operations in Portland, OR. The role emphasizes coaching dockworkers, loading/unloading freight with forklifts and pallet jacks, and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations.

You will help verify shipments and maintain safety standards. The position requires 2 years of related experience, a high school diploma or GED, and ability to work nights/weekends.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of warehouse, freight, dock, forklift or pallet jack experience.
• Forklift certification or hazmat training preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in verifying shipments.

Responsibilities

• Assist supervisors with leading and directing daily dockworker functions.
• Coach, train, and mentor new and existing dockworkers.
• Load/unload trailers using forklifts and pallet jacks per regs.
• Operate dock tools to secure freight and maintain straps, bars, and dunnage.
• Inspect shipments and secure loads for loading/unloading.
• Follow bill and quality control procedures to ensure on-time shipments.
• Log and report freight shortages and damages.
• Promote a safe and clean work environment.
