Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a Dockworker to efficiently load and unload freight, operate forklifts and pallet jacks, and secure goods for transport. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and teamwork within a fast-paced service center.

You will read shipping labels, follow DOT guidelines, and use the Dock Yard Management System to track shipments. The position requires standing up to 8 hours, lifting up to 100 lbs, and flexible shifts to meet schedules.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of safe lifting and transporting procedures.
• Familiarity with loading techniques such as tight loading and cross loading.
• Ability to operate a dock yard management system and read shipping labels.
• Ability to properly secure freight with straps, airbags, and securing devices.
• Must be available to meet customer pickup/delivery schedules.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using a forklift, pallet jack, or manually in compliance with DOT guidelines.
• Transport freight around the service center and ensure correct item placement on trucks.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and complete freight movement forms.
• Secure freight inside trailers and ensure quality loading of all trailers.
• Maintain safety, timeliness, and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
