Overview

The DMV Specialist plays a critical role in the Consumer Lending department, overseeing the accurate and efficient processing of vehicle titles, registrations, and liens for consumer loans. This position requires in-depth knowledge of DMV procedures and regulations, the ability to handle complex documentation, and the capacity to guide and mentor less experienced team members. The DMV Specialist ensures that all DMV‑related processes run smoothly and in compliance with state and federal regulations, contributing to the overall success of the department.

What You Will Do
  • Process and Verify DMV Documents: Independently process vehicle titles, registrations, liens, and other related documentation for consumer loans, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Documentation Review: Thoroughly review all incoming DMV-related documents for correctness and completeness, identifying and resolving discrepancies or missing information promptly to prevent delays in the loan process.
  • Team Collaboration: Serve as a key point of contact for cross‑departmental teams, including branches, loan contact center, and other internal teams, to ensure seamless communication and smooth handling of DMV-related inquiries and transactions.
  • Training and Mentorship: Assist in the training and development of DMV Representatives and Specialists, sharing expertise in DMV best practices, system use, and regulatory updates, while fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Recordkeeping and Compliance: Maintain accurate and organized records of all DMV transactions and documents. Ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements, preserving the integrity and security of all DMV‑related data.
  • Workflow Management: Proactively monitor and manage daily workflow, ensuring that all DMV tasks are completed within established timeframes. Address bottlenecks or process inefficiencies to maintain smooth operations.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, suggesting changes that will streamline DMV operations, enhance efficiency, and reduce potential errors.
  • Service Level Agreement (SLA) Adherence: Ensure strict adherence to internal policies, procedures, and service level agreements (SLAs) for all DMV-related transactions, providing timely responses to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Problem‑Solving and Escalation: Take ownership of complex DMV issues, collaborating with management when needed to resolve situations or elevate concerns for a timely resolution. Demonstrate sound judgment and decision‑making when handling non‑routine cases.
Requirements
What we are looking for
  • 3-5 years of experience in DMV processing, consumer lending, or a related field, with a solid understanding of DMV title, lien, and registration processes.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. An Associate's degree or relevant certification in a related field (e.g., business administration, nance) is preferred.
  • Expert Knowledge of DMV Procedures: In-depth knowledge of state‑specific DMV documentation, requirements, and processes. Ability to apply this knowledge to ensure accuracy and compliance in processing loan documents.
  • Problem‑Solving Skills: Strong ability to handle complex situations, identify discrepancies or errors in documentation, and propose effective solutions quickly and efficiently.
  • Courtesy and tact are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with customers and others inside and outside the organization, generally regarding fairly routine matters for the purpose of giving and obtaining information or instructions, updating or referring. Communications generally require shorter and not in‑depth discussions.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal teams, members, and external vendors.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and DMV‑specific software systems. Comfortable learning and adapting to new software applications.
