Attractivate Consulting Solutions in Houston, TX, seeks a Distribution Automation Engineer to help utilities deploy self-healing grid technologies, including FLISR, automated switching, and smart field devices.

You will design and support schemes, integrate field devices with SCADA/ADMS, and contribute to testing, commissioning, and performance analysis across projects. This role offers exposure to multiple DA platforms and a path to professional certifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience in distribution automation, protection, or SCADA engineering.
  • Familiarity with distribution automation platforms and field device communication protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850).
  • Understanding of distribution system operations and switching practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in both office and field settings.

  • Configure and integrate field devices (reclosers, sectionalizers, capacitor bank controllers) with SCADA and ADMS.
  • Support communication network design for distribution automation (RF mesh, cellular, fiber).
  • Participate in testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automation schemes in the field and in SCADA.
  • Analyze automation performance data and recommend tuning or expansion opportunities.
  • Document automation logic, network diagrams, and standard operating procedures.

Job description

We're seeking a Distribution Automation Engineer to support utility clients deploying self-healing grid technologies, including fault location, isolation, and service restoration (FLISR), automated switching, and smart grid field devices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and support distribution automation schemes including FLISR, volt/VAR optimization, and automated reclosers.
  • Configure and integrate field devices (reclosers, sectionalizers, capacitor bank controllers) with SCADA and ADMS.
  • Support communication network design for distribution automation (RF mesh, cellular, fiber).
  • Participate in testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automation schemes in the field and in SCADA.
  • Analyze automation performance data and recommend tuning or expansion opportunities.
  • Document automation logic, network diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
Required Qualifications

  • Consulting or utility client-facing experience.
