Job summary

Hughston Clinic is seeking a DME/Casting support role focused on patient care, casting, and DME management. You will escort patients, apply casts, and assist with minor surgical procedures while maintaining supplies and documentation.

The position requires two years of casting experience, a high school diploma, BLS, HIPAA knowledge, and a valid driver's license for potential travel to satellite clinics.

Qualifications

  • Two years before casting experience required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to travel to satellite clinics if assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients from waiting area to cast room or DME area.
  • Remove and apply casts (fiberglass and plaster) and related appliances.
  • Assist in fracture reductions and minor procedures; remove sutures/staples.
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain clean workspaces.
  • Stock and maintain work spaces; manage DME inventory.
  • Assist with DME ordering, billing review, and deliveries to hospitals.
  • Provide backup Medical Assistant duties as needed.

To assist with proper maintenance of Durable Medical Equipment supplies/orders andassist with Casting and W/C Pharmacy as necessary with patient care activities.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Escort patients as necessary from waiting area to cast room and/or DME area for analysis of needs.
  • Remove and apply casts, both fiberglass and plaster and other appliances as needed.
  • Assist in fracture reductions and minor surgical procedures as well as remove sutures, staples and apply bandages.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment
  • Stock and maintain work spaces.
  • Assist with supply/DME ordering, inventory activities, receiving etc., and in maintaining appropriate inventory levels at all times.
  • Deliver DME products to area hospitals as needed.
  • Obtain authorization for custom braces and all DME prescribed for worker's compensation patients.
  • Review DME receipts to ensure billing of items on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for patient care activities such as determining proper DME sizing and fitting items when needed.
  • Work DME hold buckets in workflow dashboard in Athena throughout the day.
  • Ensure DME orders and procedure documentation is complete prior to issuing DME.
  • Assist in properly and accurately dispensing pre-packed medications to patients as directed by Physician.
  • Triage cast patients with problems in absence of physician if necessary.
  • Provide backup support in performing Medical Assistant duties when necessary.

Experience:

Required:

  • Two years prior casting experience.

Preferred:

  • Prior inventory experience

Education:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred:

  • Completion of an accredited orthopaedic specialist training program.

Special Qualifications:

Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA requirements
  • Knowledge of fracture care coding along with CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • This position may require travel to and from satellite clinics as assigned. Please note, if assigned for travel, this position will require a valid driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record upon hire (MVR will be screened on an annual basis).

Preferred:

  • Proficient in medical terminology
