Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support administration of legal documents, estate & probate matters, employment matters, contracts, lawsuits, subpoenas, and other files.
  • Conduct legal research, organize materials, track deadlines, and maintain records.
  • Liaise with counsel, leadership, offices, agencies and partners on legal matters.
  • Assist with estate/probate documentation, asset information, and accountings.
  • Review contracts, flag issues, and ensure proper routing.
  • Support employment matters and mediation/litigation tasks as needed.
  • Provide training and guidance on legal document processes and reporting.
  • Supervise the Legal/Legacy Coordinator and monitor progress.

The Salvation Army Potomac Division is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and service-minded Divisional Paralegal to support a broad range of legal matters, including estate and probate administration, employment-related matters, commercial contracts, and legal document coordination. This role serves as a key liaison among Divisional leadership, Territorial Headquarters, legal counsel, field offices, government agencies, and external partners to help ensure legal matters are handled with accuracy, professionalism, confidentiality, and care.


What You’ll Do


  • Coordinate and support the administration of legal documents, estate and trust matters, employment-related matters, commercial contracts, lawsuits, subpoenas, and other legal files.


  • Conduct legal research, organize case materials, track deadlines, prepare correspondence and documents for review, and maintain accurate legal records.


  • Serve as a professional liaison with legal counsel, Territorial Headquarters, Divisional leadership, field offices, attorneys, fiduciaries, government agencies, and external partners.


  • Support estate and probate administration by coordinating documentation, asset-related information, accountings, communications, and related follow-up.


  • Review commercial contracts, identify key clauses and business terms, document areas of concern, and help ensure appropriate routing and follow-up.


  • Assist with employment matters, including file management, basic legal research, settlement documentation support, mediation preparation, and litigation-related tasks as assigned.


  • Provide training, guidance, and support to field officers and staff regarding legal document processes and reporting requirements.


  • Supervise the Legal/Legacy Coordinator by assigning work, monitoring progress, providing instruction, and supporting performance accountability.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:


  • Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.   • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.)..

Qualifications


  • Associate degree in paralegal studies or equivalent formal paralegal education with required paralegal certification; bachelor’s degree in legal studies preferred.


  • At least three years of progressively responsible paralegal experience, preferably with estate/probate, employment law, and contract administration experience.


  • Strong ability to read, interpret, organize, and track legal documents, court materials, contracts, deadlines, and related correspondence.


  • Excellent communication, follow-through, confidentiality, discretion, and professional judgment.


  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.


  • Ability to build effective working relationships with attorneys, officers, employees, advisory organization members, community partners, and families involved in estate matters.


  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally within the Division as needed.



Licenses and Certifications:

Valid state driver's license.


Paralegal or Legal Assistant Certification is required.
