University of Rochester Medicine seeks a Division Head for Breast Imaging to lead an expanding, academically‑driven program within the Department of Imaging Sciences.
The role emphasizes clinical excellence, education, research, and collaboration with Wilmot Cancer Institute and the broader health system to enhance access and patient outcomes.
University of Rochester Medicine (UR Medicine) invites applications and nominations for the position of Division Head, Breast Imaging, Department of Imaging Sciences.
The Division of Breast Imaging, an integral part of the Imaging Sciences Department, provides comprehensive breast imaging services across 13 locations throughout the service area and is designated an American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. Working closely with specialists at the Wilmot Cancer Institute, the Division plays a central role in delivering coordinated, multidisciplinary breast care while advancing access, early detection, education, research, and innovation. As UR Medicine continues to strengthen and integrate its clinical programs across the region, Korn Ferry has been engaged to conduct a national search for an accomplished academic radiologist and collaborative physician leader to serve as the next Division Head, Breast Imaging.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished breast imaging radiologist and collaborative physician leader who brings clinical expertise, judgment, and interpersonal skills to lead and further develop a high-performing academic breast imaging program. They will be a visible and engaged leader who builds trust, fosters a strong sense of team, and creates an environment in which faculty can thrive professionally and academically. With responsibility for a growing group of breast imaging faculty, the Division Head will be an effective mentor and talent developer who can recruit, retain, and develop outstanding physicians while promoting accountability, collegiality, and a shared commitment to exceptional patient care. The new leader will bring a forward-looking perspective to the continued growth and evolution of Breast Imaging across UR Medicine. They will be comfortable leading in an increasingly integrated and geographically distributed clinical enterprise and will work collaboratively across Imaging Sciences, Wilmot Cancer Institute, and the broader health system to strengthen clinical programs, enhance access, and advance multidisciplinary breast care. The successful candidate will understand how technology and innovation can improve both clinical quality and the patient experience and will embrace opportunities to build upon the Division’s use of advanced imaging technologies, structured reporting, breast density and risk assessment, and emerging approaches to breast cancer detection. The Division’s current clinical capabilities include novel ultrasound tomography and breast CT, with structured reporting and automated breast density and risk assessment deployed across the enterprise.
As an academic leader, the Division Head will value the complementary missions of clinical care, education, research, and service and will create opportunities for faculty to contribute meaningfully across those domains. They will encourage scholarship and collaboration, including opportunities to partner with clinical colleagues and investigators in the University’s basic science and engineering communities. Equally important will be a commitment to extending the reach of high-quality breast imaging to the communities UR Medicine serves, including underserved and underinsured populations. Above all, the successful candidate will be an approachable, inclusive, and highly collaborative leader who can articulate a compelling vision for the future of Breast Imaging and engage faculty and institutional partners in bringing that vision to life.
Candidates will hold a medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) and be board certified or board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology. They should be fellowship trained in Breast Imaging, or equivalent experience, and be eligible for medical licensure in the State of New York. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a record of clinical excellence in breast imaging and a strong track record of achievement within an academic environment, including experience in education, scholarship, research, or other academic pursuits commensurate with appointment to the faculty of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Previous leadership experience in breast imaging, radiology, or a related clinical program is highly desirable.
