Vanderbilt Health is conducting a national search for a Division Counsel – Research to provide comprehensive legal support for Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s research enterprise, focusing on regulatory compliance and research-related contracting.

The role involves negotiating a wide range of agreements, advising on federal award terms, and guiding internal policies in areas like research misconduct and conflicts of interest. Remote work is available.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from ABA-accredited law school required.
• Tennessee licensure to practice law within 12 months of employment or as required by Tennessee rules.
• 5–7 years of progressively responsible legal experience in clinical research compliance or healthcare/life sciences.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal analysis and counsel on federal and institutional research compliance rules and regulations.
• Advise on compliance with terms of federal awards, including the Common Rule and related policies.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of research-related agreements (e.g., clinical trial agreements, DUAs, MTAs, NDAs).
• Support development and review of internal policies on Other Support, foreign components, research misconduct, and conflict of interest management.
• Advise on grant-related matters and interact with offices like OSP, Research Compliance, and Research Security Office.
• Coordinate with outside counsel and collaborate with the Office of the General Counsel and the Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization.
