The Opportunity:

Abbott is currently seeking an experienced transactional attorney to lead teams of in-house attorneys in acquisitions, divestitures, equity investments and other significant transactions for all Abbott businesses. Works closely with senior Abbott business leaders, members of Abbott’s Legal Division, Corporate Licensing & Acquisitions organization, and broad cross-functional teams. This role can be located at Abbott’s headquarters in Abbott Park, Illinois or Chicago, Illinois (Willis Tower).

What You’ll Work On:

The successful candidate will possess demonstrated expertise in mergers and acquisitions. Experience with cross-border transactions is preferred. The position’s core job responsibilities include: active involvement and supervising outside counsel in all aspects of acquisitions, divestitures and equity investments, including structuring transactions, performing due diligence, negotiating transactions, drafting agreements and advising internal constituents; anticipating and identifying issues, developing and evaluating alternatives and gaining stakeholder alignment for risk-balanced solutions; advising leadership on legal issues and collaborating with Abbott stakeholders, legal colleagues and outside counsel to drive desired business outcomes; and managing one or more lawyers and support staff.

Required Qualifications:

Possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, demonstrate a strong academic background, and have, or be able to obtain, appropriate licensure to practice law in Illinois. 12+ years of experience in M&A in a top tier law firm and/or large multinational corporation Proven ability to lead attorneys and/or paralegals, and to perform successfully in cross-functional teams, with the ability to lead and mentor Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and exercise sound commercial and legal judgment Ability to independently handle highly complex matters with minimal supervision, and understand which issues to elevate to senior management and appropriate timing for doing so In addition to top-notch legal skills and a strong ethical center, excellent interpersonal, strategic thinking, communication and organizational skills.
