Abbott is seeking an experienced transactional attorney to lead in-house teams on acquisitions, divestitures, equity investments, and other significant transactions for Abbott businesses. Works closely with senior leaders and cross-functional partners. This role can be located at Abbott Park, Illinois or Chicago, Illinois (Willis Tower). The successful candidate will bring demonstrated M&A expertise, cross-border experience, and the ability to mentor legal teams.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school; eligible for Illinois licensure.
  • 12+ years of M&A experience in top law firms or multinational firms.
  • Proven ability to lead lawyers and mentor in cross-functional teams.
  • Capable of handling multiple fast-paced projects with sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal, strategic thinking and communication skills.

The Opportunity :

Abbott is currently seeking an experienced transactional attorney to lead teams of in-house attorneys in acquisitions, divestitures, equity investments and other significant transactions for all Abbott businesses. Works closely with senior Abbott business leaders, members of Abbott’s Legal Division, Corporate Licensing & Acquisitions organization, and broad cross-functional teams.

This role can be located at Abbott’s headquarters in Abbott Park, Illinois or Chicago, Illinois (Willis Tower)

What You’ll Work On :

The successful candidate will possess demonstrated expertise in mergers and acquisitions. Experience with cross-border transactions is preferred.

The position’s core job responsibilities include :
  • active involvement and supervising outside counsel in all aspects of acquisitions, divestitures and equity investments, including structuring transactions, performing due diligence, negotiating transactions, drafting agreements and advising internal constituents;
  • anticipating and identifying issues, developing and evaluating alternatives and gaining stakeholder alignment for risk-balanced solutions;
  • advising leadership on legal issues and collaborating with Abbott stakeholders, legal colleagues and outside counsel to drive desired business outcomes; and
  • managing one or more lawyers and support staff
Required Qualifications :
  • Possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, demonstrate a strong academic background, and have, or be able to obtain, appropriate licensure to practice law in Illinois.
  • 12+ years of experience in M&A in a top tier law firm and/or large multinational corporation
  • Proven ability to lead attorneys and/or paralegals, and to perform successfully in cross-functional teams, with the ability to lead and mentor
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and exercise sound commercial and legal judgment
  • Ability to independently handle highly complex matters with minimal supervision, and understand which issues to elevate to senior management and appropriate timing for doing so
  • In addition to top-notch legal skills and a strong ethical center, excellent interpersonal, strategic thinking, communication and organizational skills

The base pay for this position is $190,000.00 – $380,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
