Job description

On behalf of William Steinbach MD, Chair of Pediatrics at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH),CareerPhysician has been engaged to conduct an international search to identify a dynamic, transformational leader to serve as the nextSection Chief of Pediatric Rheumatologyin Little Rock, AR, charged with architecting and implementing a vision that will account for the development of a robust academic Section of Pediatric Rheumatology that is durable and sustainable over time and focused on the key mission areas of excellence in robust clinical care for the children of Arkansas and the region, education of trainees and future pediatric rheumatology specialists, and development of a clinically-relevant translational research program that is impactful locally and nationally in alignment with AC and UAMS strategic planning and mission/goals

Opportunity Highlights:

  • Newly rebuilt, the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology has a base establishment of 4 clinicians, 2 advanced practice nurses, and 2 specialty nurses. The Department/Chair and the Children’s Hospital leadership are dedicated to bolstering the Section of Pediatric Rheumatology including the support of the Betty A. Lowe Endowed Chair, a $1.6M endowment.
  • Institutional commitment to funding support for the named Chief’s research program and/or vision, including moving/re-establishing a wet lab (basic/translational program) with adequate bench space available within the Children’s Research Institute (CRI) and/or recruiting a faculty leader for research endeavors. Void of in-state competition, ACH benefits from a potentially large and diverse clinical Pediatric Rheumatology population and database (mineable in the EPIC electronic medical record) to allow for clinical and translational research efforts.
  • Long-term goals include the establishment of a fellowship program. The section received external consulting support to evaluate the program for fellowship applications and current faculty includes a former fellowship director, an expert in pediatric ultrasound and the necessary attending and ancillary support.
  • Applicants should hold a current faculty rank of Associate Professor or higher, be board-certified in Pediatrics and sub-specialty board certified in Pediatric Rheumatology. Preferred attributes (not required) include strong leadership experience, funded research portfolio, success in mentoring junior faculty and clinical excellence.
