Job summary

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking a Division Chief to lead six major work groups (Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures, Horticulture & Forestry, Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects, Administration/Management and Supervision) with approx. 172 staff and significant budget oversight.

The role requires strategic leadership, multitasking, and strong staff coordination, with hours from 6:30 am to 3:15 pm and a salary range of $119,377–$165,402.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Parks, Recreation, Public Administration, Engineering, Business Administration or any related field.
• Eight (8) years of experience in Park and Recreation or Public administration/management that relates to the functional area and includes four (4) years at a supervisory level.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total twelve (12) years.
• Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Manage the six major work groups: Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures, Horticulture & Forestry, Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects, Administration/Management and Supervision.
• Forecast upcoming projects with staff/equipment requirements and cost assessments.
• Oversee budget: approximately 39 million dollars and 6 million dollars in infrastructure improvement funds.
• Set performance standards and build strong relationships with union representatives.
