Description

The Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Applicants must have specialty certification in Nuclear Medicine, either current American Board of Nuclear Medicine certification or a CAQ in Nuclear Radiology from the American Board of Radiology, and have completed a Nuclear Medicine or Nuclear Radiology ACGME-approved training program.

Teaching responsibilities may include supervising and teaching residents and fellows for image interpretation during procedures and patient office visits and while participating in interdisciplinary conferences. Candidates will be expected to lecture at assigned resident didactic conferences and Nuclear Radiology fellow lecture series. Attendance and teaching at case conferences, as well as participation in journal club meetings, is required. The successful candidate will be an accomplished educator and may be expected to serve in an administrative educational leadership role within the Nuclear Medicine Division. Teaching of medical students will be limited to those rotating through the Department of Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and Pennsylvania Hospital.

Clinical responsibilities may include conducting and interpreting diagnostic general nuclear medicine and PET studies and evaluating and treating patients with therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals. Experience performing and interpreting nuclear medicine stress tests is also part of the practice and is a helpful skill. The successful applicant will be expected to have developed a national reputation for clinical excellence in Nuclear Medicine.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include the oversight and further development of a wide range of clinical and translational research programs in nuclear medicine. A demonstrated history of research leadership and collaboration, especially in clinical research, is considered a significant strength. The ideal candidate would have a reputation for innovative techniques and have demonstrated a career that has substantially impacted the field of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. Evidence of scholarship is required in the clinician-educator track, as assessed by the effect of their previous publications. The candidate will also be expected to mentor junior faculty, providing strong guidance and support in developing clinical or basic research careers.

In summary, the successful applicant will have strong leadership skills, a proven track record as a clinician-investigator focusing on Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, and a national reputation for clinical excellence; a demonstrated history of research collaboration and mentoring students and/or junior faculty will be considered a strength.

To complement Penn’s strong comprehensive nuclear medicine research program, which includes programs in instrumentation, radiopharmaceutical development, radiotherapy and translational clinical imaging, there are two cyclotrons serving the PET center. Candidates are expected to have shown the ability to develop an independent research program. The successful applicant will be expected to have developed a national reputation for clinical excellence in Nuclear Medicine. A demonstrated history of research collaboration is considered a strength.

Penn Radiology provides clinical services for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia Veteran Affairs Medical Center, and affiliated outpatient imaging centers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The Nuclear Medicine Division at Penn operates a comprehensive clinical practice that performs over 14,000 exams annually.
