Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University seeks a Division Leader for the Experimental Control Systems Division to guide a broad team of controls engineers and coordinate engineering and operations across LCLS.

The role reports to the LCLS Chief Engineer and focuses on staffing, resource management, and ensuring high-quality design and delivery of precision scientific equipment within a fast-paced, collaborative lab culture.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering with at least ten years of engineering and leadership experience.
• Experience in lifecycle management of complex control systems for large facilities.
• Ability to lead a large technical staff and manage interdisciplinary programs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership to the Controls engineers and staff, including systems engineering and program management.
• Ensure divisional processes align with SLAC/LCLS requirements and Conduct of Engineering.
• Maintain engineering morale and provide career development and training opportunities.
• Provide oversight for scope, schedule, cost, and quality through design reviews and best practices.
• Support operational activities through guidance and best practices for LCLS.
• Lead high-level research programs through design, development, integration, and outreach.
• Resolve highly complex issues spanning multiple areas with broad impact.
• Collaborate with Lab leaders on project decisions and advise senior management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
