Job summary

W. G. Yates & Sons Construction Company is seeking a Division Accountant to oversee division-level accounting, cost tracking, and reporting within a larger construction organization.

You will manage job cost, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition, while coordinating with project managers and corporate accounting to monitor change orders and improve financial performance for the division.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or related field.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based work.
• Proficiency with construction ERP/accounting software and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Track job costs and WIP, monitor budget vs. actuals, and prepare division reports.
• Handle billing, labor and subcontractor costs, and receivables/payables for the division.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and division cash flow/cost forecasts.
• Collaborate with PMs and operations to review job performance and change orders.

Division Accountant manages the financial operations, job-cost tracking, and reporting specific to a division within a larger construction or contracting company.

Key Responsibilities

• Job Costing & WIP: Track project costs, manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, and monitor budget-versus-actual expenses.
• Billing & Revenue: Handle progress billings, client invoices, retainage tracking, and appropriate revenue recognition methods (such as the percentage-of-completion method).
• Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process vendor invoices, monitor aged receivables, and manage lien waivers or sub-contractor payments.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and division-specific cash flow or cost-forecasting reports. [
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Project Managers, operational leads, and corporate accounting to review job performance and address change orders.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
• Experience: 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, ideally within the construction or project-based industry.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in construction-specific ERP or accounting software (such as Sage, Viewpoint/Vista, Procore, Foundation, or CMiC) and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Industry Knowledge: Understanding of construction accounting principles, retainage, bonding, lien laws, and GAAP compliance.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen with a “Negative” result.
• Must be able to complete a post- offer physical with a “Capable” result
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold

This role operates in both office and active construction site environments. Candidate must be able to perform site walks, attend field meetings, and ensure on-site safety and compliance.
