The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 7 (Frederick County) is currently recruiting for a District Utility Engineer (Transportation Engineering Manager II) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. All eligible candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications by the closing date. Nature of Work

This position supervises and administers engineering technicians, contractors, and consultants to ensure that SHA maintains thorough and proper inspection of all Utility Relocation work, Engineering Access Permits, and Utility Permits within engineering District 7. This work includes managing the unit's assignments. This position is also responsible for setting standards and coordinating work with other divisions as well as contractors and local municipalities on a variety of complex engineering projects and processes in highway construction, hydraulics, bridge, traffic, and facility design and construction for electric, water and sewer, gas, communications, and fiber optic systems.

Qualifications
  • Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Eight (8) years experience in professional engineering, including one (1) year of supervisory or consultant management experience.
  • Selective Qualification: Four (4) years of the required experience must have involved utility inspection, utility coordination, and/or project management. *This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability).
  • Notes:
    • 1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
    • 2. Possession of a Master's Degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non- supervisory experience.
    • 3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in state of Maryland.

  • Special Requirements: This position requires the candidate to have the ability to report within 1 (one) hour. Position is considered an emergency essential.
