Job summary

Avondale Elementary School District seeks a Transportation Supervisor to oversee daily operations, supervise drivers and staff, and ensure safe, timely, compliant transport services across the district.

The role focuses on route optimization, scheduling, and coordinating with district leaders, families, and partners to maintain high service levels. Strong leadership and knowledge of safety regulations are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma.
• Must possess/maintain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (upon employment).
• Background clearance (upon employment).
• Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Experience in school transportation, logistics, or fleet operations.
• Must have two years of leadership and supervisory experience.
• Must have at least one year of experience operating a school bus and school bus equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily operations of the Transportation Department including but not limited to managing staff, hiring and retention, safety procedures, incident response, decision making and problem solving.
• Supervise bus drivers and bus aides, trainers, and mechanics shop personnel, provides coaching, and monitors performance and attendance.
• Assist with hiring and evaluating drivers and bus aides.
• Communicate route changes, delays and important updates clearly and promptly.
• Maintain an excellent working knowledge and application of bus routes, field trip requirements, schedules and vehicle reservation requirements.
• Maintains a trip reduction program in accordance with state, federal and local laws
• Collaborate with district leaders, principals, and school teams to ensure alignment of supports and priorities.
• Communicate clearly with families, community partners, and external agencies as appropriate.
• Assist the Transportation Assistant Director in preparing memorandums outlining and explaining administrative procedures and policies, bus schedules and driver schedules
• Optimize routes for efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness
• Ensure compliance with state and local transportation regulations.
• Prepare bus schedules, routes and maps for drivers for extracurricular opportunities for students throughout the district.
• Promote and enforce student transportation safety standards and procedures.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and complaints; prepare required reports.
• Ensure drivers follow district policies and state/federal transportation laws.
• Works with the Lead Trainer to ensure all staff receive required onboarding training, refresher training and incident-based retraining.
• Create and facilitate training to drivers and office staff on the rider verification and routing software as needed.
• Partners with the Lead Mechanic to monitor fleet readiness, prioritize repairs and ensure preventative maintenance schedules support operational needs.
• Supports district-wide emergency plans and emergency transportation logistics.
• Communicate route changes, delays, and important updates clearly and promptly.
• Address parent and school concerns in a professional and timely manner.
• Assist the Transportation Assistant Director in creating and submitting required reports for state reporting and auditing purposes
• Prepare reports related to route efficiency, mileage, and operational performance.
• Other duties as assigned.
