Job summary

Caltrans is seeking a Deputy District Director, District 2, to oversee the District's capital program and lead Supervising Transportation Engineers and staff across Design, Construction, Right-of-Way, Environmental, and Planning.

The role emphasizes budgeting, performance measurement, workload planning, and cross-agency collaboration to deliver multi‑billion dollar projects on time and within scope. This is a permanent, full-time, hybrid position based in Shasta County.

Qualifications

• Valid certificate of registration as a civil, electrical, or mechanical engineer in California.
• Experience as a Supervising level engineer or higher in transportation.
• Experience in managerial or supervisory roles in state service.

Responsibilities

• Direct Supervising Transportation Engineers and a Supervisor II to deliver the multi-billion dollar program.
• Coordinate with Design, Construction, Right of Way, Environmental, Surveys, and Planning managers.
• Develop, monitor, and report on program delivery performance measures.
• Balance budgets and allocate resources for project delivery.
