Qualifications

  • Master's degree in school psychology or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
  • Valid Florida Certification in School Psychology.
  • Understanding of the roles and functions of school psychologists within the Exceptional Student Education Department, the school system, and the community.
  • Demonstrated competence and leadership capabilities as a school psychologist.
  • Ability to work effectively in the coordination of services from various departments.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Support academic, social, and interpersonal student development by implementing the Division of Exceptional Student Education initiatives for Psychological Services.
  • Advise the Director of Exceptional Student Education, Support/Compliance regarding assignments and other specific responsibilities of District school psychologists.
  • Keep the Director of Exceptional Student Education, Support/Compliance aware of the status of psychological services and any needs or concerns.
  • Supervise, utilizing appropriate professional assistance, District school psychologists, and Pre‑K assessment teams to ensure professional quality and quantity of psychological services.
  • Ensure that all school psychologists are thoroughly familiar with the criteria for identifying and recommending placement of exceptional students utilizing the District Special Programs and Procedures Policy for Providing Special Education to Exceptional Students.
  • Provide continuous professional development and support to District school psychologists to ensure the provision of psychological services is in accordance with state and district guidelines.
  • Ensure that school psychologists follow procedures for maintaining confidentiality and security of all psychological records.
  • Assist the Director of Exceptional Student Education, Support/Compliance in the development of a comprehensive program of psychological services and assume primary responsibility for the implementation and evaluation of the programs within the department.
  • Assist the Director of Exceptional Student Education, Support/Compliance in planning in‑service training programs, in coordination with the Teacher Professional Learning and Growth Department, for school psychologists and assume primary responsibility for implementation and evaluation of these programs within the department.
  • Ensure psychological services delivered to students meet applicable legislation and District policies and guidelines by investigating and mediating complaints or problems, regarding psychological services, employing the expertise of the Psychological Services Department team leader(s), as necessary.
  • Ensure effective service delivery by maintaining data and preparing reports as requested by the Executive Director, Exceptional Student Education, and the Director of Exceptional Student Education, Support/Compliance, describing the quality and quantity of psychological services.
  • Keep the Director of Exceptional Student Education, Support/Compliance advised regarding the adequacy and needs of stations provided for school psychologists.
  • Keep the Director of Exceptional Student Education, Support/Compliance advised regarding any problems that arise regarding financial/personnel matters affecting any member of the psychological services teams.
  • Keep the Director of Exceptional Student Education, Support/Compliance advised regarding the inventory of materials, equipment, and supplies needed by the school psychologists and Pre‑K assessment.
